Guam - The island's students may soon see local produce in their cafeteria meals. Senator Aline Yamashita has been working with officials to allow for a partnership between the Department of Education, the Department of Defense's DLA Troop Support Pacific Guam Area Office and Quality Distributors to support local businesses, including the Farmer's Cooperative Association of Guam.

Seven school cafeterias that are non-outsourced are slated to benefit from the partnership, but not before food items are checks for quality, health and safety standards.

Yamashita says this would support the buy local initiative and the local economy.
