Northern math teachers learn Common Core

Guam - Lagu District math teachers are finding fun ways to teach the subject. Wettengel Elementary School assistant principal Elias Taisipic says more than 150 math teachers from the school district participated in Wednesday's Lagu Math Institute training on Common Core standards.

He said, "This is a great opportunity for our teachers to be here what's happening right now is that the institute is broken into two groups elementary and secondary schools and the beauty of it is they're introduced to new strategies - ways to teach math to make math fun."

Dr. Joseph Zilliox, a professor of mathematics education and director of the Master of Education in Teaching Program at the University of Hawaii-Manoa facilitated the training at Okkodo High School.
