Guam - With just three weeks until the start of classes, the Department of Education along with GovGuam agencies and various volunteers are hustling to prepare school campuses for the first day of classes on August 20. DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez told KUAM News, "We're working hard and it's nice to have a lot of attention on it. The governor and the agencies are actually out there at the schools working right now. The schools themselves and our Maintenance Department are doing the cleanup and replacing the equipment and repairing air conditioning and a lot of the things that need to happen before school starts."

Fernandez doesn't want a repeat of last school year, as the poor state of school cafeterias delayed school openings by one week.
