Guam - With hopes to further ensure a safe work environment for all industries, the Guam Contractors Association and the American Society of Safety Engineers started its three-day annual Safety Conference this morning. GCA president James Martinez along with guest speaker Van Howell discussed general safety situations along with current OSHA policies that effects not just construction, but all industries on Guam.

Martinez said, "It's to raise awareness that safety is for everybody and that there's regulations and compliance issues that need to be addressed when an inspector comes around to take a look at the safety of your company." And Howell added, "I hope to put a little spark in their hearts in terms of safety and health, as far as how they really are their brothers keepers when it comes of safety and health and everybody has a responsibility."

The conference continues until Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Guam with discussions on defensive driving, crane safety and drug-free workplaces.
