Mayor wants Harmon ponding basin drained

Guam - The Dededo Mayor's Office wants the ponding basin along Harmon Loop Road drained. Mayor Melissa Savares says it's a safety hazard as children play in the area and even feed the fish inside the pond. She adds vandals sometimes break the lock on the gate causing more of a drowning hazard for anyone who is curious to go inside.
Savares says the Department of Public Works is assessing how to drain it, as heavy rains cause the pond to overflow and flood nearby businesses and homes. "The water rises and the contents such as the fish end up in the middle of the road when the water overflows, and they did send a team of two members from the department to do an assessment but its going to take multiple agencies," she explained.
She hopes to work with more agencies like the Guam EPA during the cleanup effort. The fire department also notes the overgrown vegetation around the pond is a fire hazard especially during dry season.
