Property owners: "kids started the fire"

Guam - Earlier this month we brought you the story on the deep-seated fire in Yigo along Back Road to Andersen Air Force Base. According to Guam Environmental Protection Agency solid waste program manager Roland Gutierrez, the investigation is complete and a draft notice of violation will be ready next week.
"The property is owned by a gentleman we believe is off-island and his brother is staying there and according to the brother, they were dumping down the side of the ravine. And then there was an outside kitchen that was next to it - basically demolished it and threw it over the hillside. They were burning on top and it ran underneath the debris."
Gutierrez adds that the fire started from the surface and did not self-combust. According to property owners, the family's kids started the flames. Gutierrez says the site is still smoldering. GEPA continues to monitor the area.
