Guam - Despite concern from the community that all slots on the route for the Liberation Day Parade will now have to be permitted, the Department of Parks and Recreations will be implementing new charges to set up along Marine Corps Drive. According to DPR director Pete Calvo, this is the first year his agency extended permits up and down both sides of the road from KFC toward Adelup in an effort to mitigate the mess left by trash.

"Our greatest concern was with controlling the trash," he said. "For years we've always run into the problem of excessive trash not in our permitted areas but in the unpermitted areas and last year it took us nearly a week to get rid of all the trash along the side of the road."

Calvo adds there will now be an additional 200 slots. Fees are $50 per space as well as a cleaning deposit fee of $75 that will be refunded three business days after the parade provided trash is removed and there are no damages to the park area. DPR will begin issuing permits this Friday, July 13 from 8am to 1pm at Paseo Stadium. Reservations are on a first come/first serve basis and only one permit may be issued per adult. Applicants must present a valid picture ID.

No markers or shelters may be installed prior. Campers can begin setup Friday, July 20th at 8am and must vacate premises no later than Saturday evening July 21 at 6pm.
