Guam - The U.S. Department of Energy presented Governor Eddie Calvo a letter on Tuesday morning congratulating the Guam Power Authority, the Government of Guam and the people of the island on moving forward to provide a more efficient, reliable and sustainable energy future for the island.

USDOE chief technology officer Don McDonald said, "We do feel that it does offer the residents of this island the beginning steps of their ability to better control their usage, better control the cost of electricity for these customers and we look forward to an exciting couple of years as these technologies are installed and put to use."

Efforts include the $32 million Smart Grid project funded through a matching grant with GPA and the Department of Energy along with its agreement with a private sector partner to provide the first large scale installation of solar electric generation capacity on island.
