Guam - The Guam Environmental Protection Agency is investigating an illegal dump in Yigo that has had Civil Defense, the mayor's office and Guam Fire monitoring since a deep seated fire was reported there earlier this week. According to Guam EPA spokesperson Tammy Jo Anderson Taft the fire was located within a pile of solid waste that was illegally disposed of and being used as illegal fill material.

Responders are having a difficult time because the illegal dump is located along a steep cliff presenting a challenge to completely put the fire out. The illegal dump is located between Joseph Taitano's illegal dump and Route 15 or the Back Road to Andersen.

No notice of violation has been issued at this time. Residents in the area affected by smoke are encouraged to keep their windows closed and stay indoors if possible.
