Guam - The Port Authority of Guam's board of directors met this afternoon further discussing progress with the Port Modernization Program relative to working with the Maritime Administration. According to general manager Mary Torres, relative to meetings with the port's technical development team, the people of Guam should finally see the dirt turned.

"We actually approved the first of two task orders, so we'll proceed with bringing processes in the near futures and subsequent awarding of bids and we hope to break ground early next year," she said.

She says the task orders would involve the first of two projects which includes the demolition of a warehouse facility to provide for capacity in the yard with the second being retrofitting one of the Port's buildings. The agency is set to have an oversight hearing with the Legislative Committee on Transportation on July 5.
