Guam - The foundation is poured and passing motorists will soon begin to see the superstructure go up for the Guam Regional Medical City in Dededo. According to Guam Healthcare Development's president and CEO Margaret Bengzon, the island's second civilian hospital will not only improve local healthcare, but also improve the economy by keeping healthcare dollars on island.
"Every year something close to 10% of the population, 15,000 persons estimated leave Guam and this means, something that's of greater concern is that close $60 million, leaving the island for healthcare," she said.
Bengzon addressed the Mayors Council of Guam Wednesday where the village leaders expressed concerns about having two hospitals on island. Bengzon assures that two hospitals mean increased competition, which will result in lower price of healthcare as well as increased quality.
