Guam - The clock is ticking for DOE to obligate $60 million in stimulus money. According to interim superintendent Taling Taitano, although 40% of the ARRA funds have been obligated, it may be necessary to request for an extension in the event there are more delays with procurement.
"We've been having regular bi-weekly meetings with USDOE and they have indicated that they would be amenable to request for an extension to ensure no funds lapse. This has been reported to the governor and BBMR and a draft letter was put together back in February," she said.
Taitano says the request for extension must come from Governor Eddie Calvo, who has yet to respond to her letter. The deadline to spend the ARRA money is September.
