Guam - Tumon Beach from the Hilton to the Pacific Islands Club is off limits this after the Department of Parks and Recreation closed down the strip of beach at 10 this morning after there were five reported encounters of wasp jellyfish in the water. DPR director Pete Calvo urges beach goers to heed the warning.
He told KUAM News, "They could be dangerous especially to individuals who are allergic to the sting. Generally the sting is irritating not necessarily deadly but can be quite dangerous, especially in numbers."
Calvo says tourists were redirected to Matapang Beach, and locals should do the same. He adds that it's common for jellyfish to end up on our shores due to the tides. Park staff will assess the area Friday to determine if the beach will reopen for the weekend.
