Guam - The island's only family literacy program received some much-needed financial support from the TakeCare Foundation. According to Guam Humanities Council Motheread Program Coordinator Cathy Flores, TakeCare's $4,500 donation will be used to buy more books for the decade-old program.

She told KUAM News, "What happens with the money that we use they're going to start their home library or enhance the books that they already have at home. In order for the love of reading to continue the materials have to be available through the generosity of TakeCare that will continue to happen."

The 15-week program teaches parents how to work and read with their children. The literature is pre-selected based on developmental themes, including understanding family values, establishing independence, and sharing and cooperation. For more information on Motheread, call 472-4460.
