Guam - On his way to Singapore to participate in the 11th annual Asia summit known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army General Martin E. Dempsey stopped on Guam Thursday. According to Andersen Air Force Base Public Affairs, he stopped on Guam to refuel. Upon his arrival to Guam, Dempsey was greeted by Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Duane D. Thiessen, commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific. Dempsey also spoke with a Navy UH60 helicopter crew chief during the brief stop. The Army General was recently in Hawaii with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta speaking about the role of the Asia Pacific region in the new American Defense Strategy. Panetta is also heading to Singapore as part of his ten day trip to Asia, which evidently does not include Guam.
