Guam - Almost 300 graduates from the University of Guam received their degrees on Sunday. The graduation brings the total number of university graduates to 14,000 in the 60 years the institution has been in existence. The big highlight of the event was the commencement address that was delivered by Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood.

Ronald Doculan is the spring 2012 valedictorian, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Doculan is currently student teaching at Liguan Elementary School, and announced, "Graduates, we may have a degree today, but let us not limit ourselves to just one degree. Use this degree as a stepping stone to find your true passion in life. Go out into the world and tell them what this university has taught us - show them what we know and do not hesitate to seek more knowledge."

The university also conferred an honorary Master's of Micronesian Traditional Knowledge to Jesus "Chamorro" Charfauros, who is a pioneer of the Chamorro cultural renaissance.
