Guam - The Guam Police Department's Highway Patrol Division is investigating a two-car collision that resulted in one traffic fatality and sent six people to the hospital. The crash occurred before 3pm on Sunday.

Acting GPD spokesperson Sergeant Mike Aguon says a 2008 Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound on Marine Corps Drive when it collided with a Chevy Suburban that was making a left turn on to Tun Jose Diego Road. Medics transported the five passengers who were inside the Nissan to Naval Hospital in Agana Heights and one passenger in the Chevy was transported to the Guam Memorial Hospital. Aguon says a 36-year-old woman died from injuries she sustained in the crash.

Police say those in the Chevy were just returning home from an outing and were several hundred yards from their home. Marine Corps spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Aisha Bakkar confirms that five Marines who are participating in the ongoing Geiger Fury Exercise were off-duty when they collided with the Suburban. The Marines' injuries were not life threatening.

Police have not released the identity of the woman who died and are still investigating whether speed and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.
