Guam - The island's streets are brighter now as the Guam Power authority has completed the installation of 850 LED streetlights. The project was funded through $2.5 million from American Reinvestment and Recovery Act money. The project is in addition to the 520 induction lights that were installed in Tumon.
The technology is expected to save the government significantly in energy costs. Consolidated utility services general manager John Benavente says the project is having a positive effect on the motoring public as they ensure safety on the major roadways and the safety and security of tourists and residents alike.
GPA will install additional lights on Route 16 and other roadways over the next few weeks.
