Guam - Keep your umbrellas with you, because it's going to be wet couple of days. Although the National Weather Service isn't anticipating issuing any watches or warnings, they are warning of lots of rain heading our way. The NWS has been keeping a close eye on a disturbance that began forming over the weekend near Chuuk.

Just today the Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert, which means in the next 12-24 hours a tropical cycle could form. According to NWS meteorologist Mike Middlebrook however, Guam shouldn't be worried. "We're not expecting the winds to come up by the time the thing turns into a tropical storm it will be pretty far away," he said.

Instead, island residents should be ready for a downpour. "Mainly just showers maybe some heavy rain later tonight and tomorrow possibly a thunderstorm as far as wind is concerned we're not looking at any tropical storm type winds maybe15 to 25 miles per hour it could gust up to 30 in showers," he said.

According to Guam Homeland Security Office of Civil Defense spokesperson Alyssa Benito, residents should take the necessary precautions. "The disturbance is expected to bring high wind gusts, so we're asking residents to secure your trash bins and lids all loose belongings around the house so it does not fly away, you know that could potentially hurt somebody. We're also asking residents to drive cautiously," she said.

According to the NWS, the center of this disturbance should be passing about 50 miles southwest of Guam tonight.
