Guam - A roundtable meeting is scheduled to be held this evening to discuss the Guam Medical Referral Office and the services they provide to island residents in need of off-island medical treatment. Healthcare Committee chair Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. says the referral office will make a presentation on its services provided in Manila, Los Angeles and Honolulu.

The lawmaker called for the roundtable to determine if the $650,000 the government is paying on a yearly basis is being used appropriately or if the funds could also go to pay for treatment, lodging and transportation. "As the Health Committee, we've seen a lot of our people coming for those type of assistance and maybe it might be time for us to look at if that's how and where we should spend our taxpayer dollars."

The roundtable is being held at the Legislature's Public Hearing Room.
