Federal fugitive sentenced to 100 months
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - More than 16 years after he was supposed to be sentenced on drug importation charges, 52-year-old Marvin Scharff was finally sentenced in the District Court on Thursday. Scharff was sentenced to eight years and four months behind bars for two counts of importation of heroin.
He was originally charged in June 1994, but failed to show up for his sentencing hearing. Scharff fled to the Philippines, where he had been hiding until he turned himself in to the State Department as he wanted to return to Guam. He was arrested on April 29 upon arrival to the island.
Once he has completed his 100 months behind bars, he will be placed on supervised release for four years.
