Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo addressed the Guam Contractors Association today on the economic outlook of Guam, specifically that of construction and infrastructure projects on-island. He says although tourism has grown exponentially especially from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Russia, military construction needs improvement whereas military funding rather has been flat.

He says both are cornerstones to the economy where a boom occurs when both real estate and construction industries are flourishing. "That is why it's so imperative for an organization such as this group working with an administration, working with the Legislature, working domestically here on Guam but also with potential investors from off-island, in getting this real estate and construction industry going and that's the key for success for exponential growth in our economy," he said.

Calvo added he will be speaking with Undersecretary Robert Work to discuss issues relative to the House Armed Services Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Calvo meanwhile swore-in the GCA's new board of directors with Landscape Management Systems CEO Robert Salas taking over as chairman.
