Weekend riot at DYA compound

Guam – The Department of Youth Affairs facility is on lockdown status following a disturbance at the Mangilao compound Sunday. DYA officials report that at 4:15pm, several juveniles in the facility's F-unit were involved. The incident started after one client provoked another during a routine dorm cleanup. The minor reportedly splashed a cup of water into a cell that another client was cleaning. The confrontation resulted in several other juveniles causing a riot.

One DYA client and two staff were taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. The entire facility is on lockdown during an internal investigation of the incident. GPD's Juvenile investigation section is also investigating.
