Guam - Hundreds of the island's elementary school students enjoyed the day in Tiyan today as the Guam Police Department held a public display showcasing a variety of law enforcement agency's equipment.  The annual event kicks-off Police Week festivities.

Organizer Lieutenant Ron Taitano says students were able to learn about the different aspects of law enforcement first hand. He said, "It helps us interact with the youth. We want them to see that police officers from any agency is approachable. We're not just soldiers or robots. We're people too and they can approach us and talk to us. So for the kids don't be afraid to say hi. We'll say hi back."

Police Week activities continue through the week including a special peace officers memorial ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, an awards ceremony on Thursday and a banquet on Saturday.
