Guam - Providence International Christian Academy appeared before the Guam Land Use Commission Thursday afternoon in the hopes they would be granted a conditional use occupancy permit. The Tamuning private school has been operating illegally for months but is in the process of obtaining the necessary permits from the island's regulatory agencies.
GLUC chairman Jay Lather says commissioners considered a number of factors, such as impacts to adjacent properties and concerns from Department of Land Management staff regarding notice requirements. "And there are also concerns with the neighborhood," Lather added. "It appears that there is an CC&R, covenant restriction on the properties that may be problematic for this particular use 0859 and there's opposition from neighbors."
Residents living near the schools had previously raised concerns about diminishing property values and traffic issues relative to the schools location.
The GLUC decided not to take action at this time.
