Ferry named after Guam
by Nick Delgado
Guam - One of two recently acquired military sealift high speed ferries has been named after the territory. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus informed Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo today that one of the vessels was renamed the USNS Guam.
The navy acquired the ferries to transport military personnel and equipment to training areas from Okinawa to other locations in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Bordallo says the renaming honors the Navy's longstanding relationship with the island.
