Guam - The Department of Public Works - Office of Highway Safety will celebrate the National Click It Or Ticket mobilization campaign beginning May 21. A proclamation signing held today marked the official launch of the campaign that promotes the use of seat belts and the dangers of not buckling up.
Public Works director Joanne Brown says Guam is only at 80% enforcement of seat belts - an area that could be improved considering there are 109,000 registered vehicles on the island. "Certainly over the years we're seeing the value and importance of having and using seatbelts and the fact that we can save lives and why it's so important and those of you that do this line of work everyday that are our partners in highway safety and see the impact, damage, loss and devastation happen to an individual and their families because they're involved in a crash, certainly the intent behind this is to minimize that impact," she said.
