Guam - The Department of Education's investigation into students who were caught harming themselves at two Yigo campuses over the last couple weeks is revealing more information. Close to 30 students were found cutting themselves with blades from a pencil sharpener. During a press conference last week it was announced that a DOE district psychologist may have identified the child who instigated the incidents.
Ross Schlosbon interviewed six of the children and told KUAM News, "All the children I interviewed were children of probably ‘A' and ‘B' students - there was one child I was unable to see at the time, and that child I may like to do a little more in-depth interview with later on. And this child was probably the child that was the instigator of this behavior."
DOE has partnered with the Department of Mental Health to provide information on risk behaviors to all DOE employees as well as parents. Schlosbon advises parents to monitor what their children view on television and the Internet.
