Guam - Guam Federation of Teachers union members can expect to receive ballots in the mail as they elect a new president. Agana Heights Elementary School teacher Carol Somerfleck, current vice president of the GFT Executive Council Tim Fedenko and Alutig Busing's Ed Quintanilla are on the ballot vying to lead the union.
Current GFT president Matt Rector has not officially resigned from his post, but told members at a convention meeting that he intends to leave off-island after school is out to tend to his parents. Somerfleck confirms that ballots were mailed out today and members will have several weeks to vote and mail them back. Polls will close on June first and the U.S. Department of Labor will tally the ballots and announce the winner on June 2.
Those members who don't receive a ballot by next week should contact the GFT office.
