Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo is hoping to hear back from Washington next week on funding for the military buildup. This morning the island's chief executive spoke with Navy Undersecretary Robert Work about the $460 million anticipated in buildup projects through Fiscal Year 2013. Calvo added work was confident the DOD will address concerns raised by the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Senators Carl Levin, John McCain and Jim Webb have been critical of the costs of the Marines relocation going so far as including in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act - a provision that freezes any funding for the buildup until certain conditions are met.

According to Work, the DOD will be meeting with the senate in next few days. "After those discussions he will get back to me and see how things are moving forward with monies that are currently allocated for projects as well as for fiscal year 2013 so we do anticipate some word by next week," he said. "There is more of a sense that the senate there are more areas where the questions that they had there's more answers, there's more surety we're hopeful with that some of the requirements by the Senate in terms of holding spending would be released."

The governor in the meantime said he would be calling a meeting with the Guam First Advisory Commission to report back the results of his discussions.
