Elementary schools on lockdown after threat
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - Two elementary schools were placed on lockdown shortly before students were to be dismissed after police received a call from a frantic individual concerned that harm may be done to her child. The M.U. Lujan and P.C. Lujan Elementary Schools were on lockdown for about an hour this afternoon after the threat was reported to police.
Initially a school aide told KUAM News that a man had come to the campus threatening to shoot someone. But police and the Department of Education clarify that DOE was contacted by the school after receiving a call from police. Deputy superintendent Rob Malay says an individual reported that there could be possible harm to her and her children.
He told KUAM News, "What we did at M.U. Lujan is we immediately initiated a lockdown to prevent anyone from having access to the children. Because we weren't certain it was M.U. Lujan, whoever called into the police dept it got staticky before Lujan, so we issued a lockdown at P.C. Lujan, as well."
Once officials were able to confirm that the student attended M.U. Lujan Elementary School, the lockdown at P.C. Lujan in Barrigada was lifted. Police were able to conduct a follow up and later M.U. Lujan in Yona was notified that it could release students for the day.
GPD has not said if they have taken a suspect into custody relative to the alleged terrorizing complaint.
