Lower homeless numbers for 2012

Guam - The Guam Homeless Coalition got much lower numbers during this year's point in time count compared to the number counted in 2011. Coalition chairperson Shelly Calvo says her team totaled up 1,114 homeless people living on the streets, and 187 homeless people living in shelters for 2012. It was in January the coalition combed the island conducting the count that will help Guam get federal money to care for the homeless including those living in substandard housing.
However, Calvo says the count is not over. "I wouldn't say this is accurate because the challenges we faced during the last count and that it the weather condition during the time wasn't very favorable for out team," she said.
The coalition will also provide health screenings and haircuts to the homeless community on May 11 at the Tamuning Gym. For more information call 473-0202.
