Guam - The Committee on Municipal Affairs, Tourism, Housing and Recreation will be conducting a public hearing on Wednesday as they will hear testimony on Bill 443. the proposed legislation would amend the law relative to mayoral duties with respect to routed streets and roadways.
The Department of Public Works and the Federal Highway Administration expressed concerns about federal funding being in jeopardy as a new law allowed the management of routed roads to be transferred from DPW to island mayors. The Mayors council doesn't think the law needs to be amended.
Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz introduced Bill 443, which would only give mayors authority over non-routed roads. A public hearing on the measure is set for Wednesday morning at 9.
