Port info briefing on Tuesday
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - The Port Authority of Guam's management and board of directors are scheduled to appear before lawmakers on Tuesday for another informational briefing. The Transportation Committee is looking to get the status of maintenance and repair of the wharfs, an update on the acquisition of gantry cranes (currently under negotiation), and the status of port tariffs and leases.
The board recently gave the green light for the agency to source out a $15 million loan for a service life extension of the deteriorating wharf. The agency had put in a request to the Maritime Administration seeking to utilize federal funding to make repairs that would extend the life of the wharf for another ten years, but MARAD has not responded to their request.
The informational briefing is set for this Tuesday at 6:30 in the evening.
