Guam - The Yomiuri Shimbun is reporting that Washington is considering Tokyo's proposal to bear a portion of the costs to develop a U.S. base and related facilities in Tinian. The article states that the Japense government plans to shoulder the development costs to establish a joint training base for both countries.

The proposal was reportedly made to fend off Washington's demand that Japan increase its share of the cost to realign U.S. forces in Japan. The costs would be in addition to the $2 billion Japan has agreed to pay to relocate Marines from Okinawa to Guam.
