Guam - Federal money is in jeopardy following the enactment of a new law that took the management of the island's roads from Public Works and gave it to the island's mayors. DPW director Joanne Brown says the Federal Highway Administration has issues with the law that could impact funding DPW receives for road construction projects.

"So certainly all the major projects that we're looking on right now that are funded, that's what we have at risk because there's an expectation that when these roads are built that we have the responsibility of managing them," she said. "And more importantly the reason that these roads are being built is to ensure the safe transportation of our residents and make sure we have a viable transportation system on island, and unfortunately the passage of that legislation really adversely affected that process."

Brown says the law will need to be amended to prevent federal funding from being jeopardized and restore DPW's authority over the island's routed roads.
