Guam - The Guam Community College Culinary Buffet and Catering Class put their skills to the test with a buffet spread open to the public. According to culinary student Tabitha Owens, the buffets are part of group projects where students plan the menu, provide recipes, provide the cost to prepare the recipes, provide shopping lists, execute the menu, and clean and close the kitchen.

Owens says today's theme was her favorite - traditional Japanese cuisine. "We are learning not only cooking but costs cost is very important when we prepare our buffet so we're learning that and planning it out," she explained.

Owens says she hopes to take her GCC associate's degree further and pursue studies as a nutritionist or dietician. The buffet takes place every Thursday from 11am to 1pm at the GCC Multipurpose Auditorium in Mangilao. The price is $10 per person, and no reservations are required.
