Guam - NAVFAC Marianas isn't releasing how many proposals it received for the lease of 49 acres of the Ship Repair Facility. Last Friday was the deadline for interested companies to respond to the request for proposal.  NAVFAC Marianas public affairs officer Catherine Cruz-Norton confirms that evaluation boards have convened to examine the technical and financial terms of each proposal that was received.

She says the boards will then make a recommendation regarding the selection of a best value offeror for purposes of conducting exclusive out-lease negotiations.

An industry forum and a site visit was held in February.  The Navy intends to enter into a new lease for the Ship Repair Facility by the fall when the current lease with the Guam Economic Development Authority expires.  GEDA has asked that the Government of Guam be given a long-term lease, but agency officials say they haven't received an answer to their request.

The Guam Shipyard meanwhile, which is currently subleasing the property, did submit a proposal.
