Port breaks ground on container terminal lighting
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - Ground was broken today for upgrades to be made to the Port Authority's container yard lighting. The nearly $800,000 federally-funded project will increase security and visibility at the container yard. The project includes removing existing corroded poles and replacing them, modifying the existing foundations and re-wiring of lighting circuits.
Port general manager Mary Torres told KUAM News, "Today we go to the very heart of what ensures that these people who operate what is a very hazardous type of operation on the deck have those certain securities in place such as adequate lighting since we are a 24/7 operation."
DCK Pacific Guam has been awarded the project that should be completed in November. New timer controls will also be installed providing daily automatic on and off settings.
