Lawyer clarifies Marcel Camacho's statement
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - Wanting to clear the record, the attorney for J&G, John Brown, issued a press release today to clarify statements former GHURA executive director Marcel Camacho made, claiming he had sole authority to accept or reject applications for Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. Camacho recently resigned and made claims that the board acted unethically when it awarded tax credits to Great Homes and Tower 70.
He also alleged that Great Homes' application was full of deficiencies and said the board didn't bother to follow his recommendations. J&G is a member of Great Homes, LLC and through its attorney wanted to clarify that GHURA has the final say to disapprove an application.
Brown said, "The executive director can only defer consideration of an application, but not disapprove it." Brown went on to say that Camacho's claim of having sole authority is not supported by the law and the former director "Has made way too much of his claim of authority, and has obviously failed to appreciate the limitations of it."
