Guam - After facing a challenging year, the Guam Regional Transit Authority is hoping to get back on track with improving its bus operations and adding more vehicles to its fleet. During its afternoon meeting, board members were expected to discuss the purchase of new busses through a $1.5 million federal grant, developing a new logo for its buses, finding a permanent executive manager and its RFP for the contract of GRTA's bus operations.

Interim executive manager Felixberto Dungca said, "A lot of these projects do take time and take a lot of work and review by the board to make sure that everybody is satisfied before we actually pursue it and that's the nature of RFPs and projects in those nature. But optimistically, I think we've passed that curve where we've done a lot of hard homework and now we're moving forward."

He expects to procure four new transit busses and 8 new transit vans to add to its existing fleet of ten. He's also hoping to expand their current ridership of nearly 18,000.  Dungca adds the challenges are inclusive of budget cuts but received unofficial word that the budget for the transit authority could increase in Fiscal Year 2013.
