Guam - More than a hundred family and friends were invited to a special ceremony renaming the Guam Main Postal Facility in Barrigada in honor of the late John Pangelinan Gerber. Martin Gerber, Jr. says preserving the memory of his brother brought an overwhelming feeling for he and his family.

"John loved his Marines, and he loved his island and he dedicated his life to helping his fellow service members," he said, "I think what we see when we think about John was he was a selfless person, he really thought of others before himself and he spent countless hours of helping people and other organizations to try and accomplish their goals."

It was last November that President Barack Obama signed legislation into law authored by Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo to honor Gerber for his lifelong commitment to helping his fellow Marines, veterans and service members. Many of you may remember Gerber for the walk from Yigo to Sumay in a push to rename Route 1 to "Marine Corps Drive".

Gerber also built and operated the Pacific War Museum.
