Guam - The Guam Main Postal Facility will officially be renamed in honor of the late John Pangelinan Gerber this Friday.  The U.S. Postal Service will host the invitation only dedication that includes the unveiling of a plaque that will designate the postal building at 489 Army Drive as the "John Pangelinan Gerber Post Office Building."

In May of last year, Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo introduced legislation to dedicate the building in honor of Gerber. It was signed into law (PL 112-47) by President Barack Obama in November.  Gerber was best remembered for his life long dedication to the Marine Corps and his lone walk from Yigo to Sumay to encourage support to rename Route 1 to "Marine Corps Drive".  He also built and ran the Pacific War Museum.

Late last year he posthumously was awarded the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation's Colonel John H. Magruder Award. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Friday morning.
