Guam - Speaking before a group he once presided over, Guam Military Buildup Office director Mark Calvo spoke before the Armed Forces Communication Electronics Association today on the military buildup and its progress to date. While reiterating that the buildup will happen in some form or fashion, he ultimately stressed Guam's unified voice and working together with both the U.S. Department of Defense and the Government of Japan.

"There's still, as you probably heard today, negotiating in Japan how much they're commitment, the government is committed to making this happen by supporting financially," Calvo stated. "So when all that is set in stone and formalized again, we want to move forward and speak in one voice and execute the buildup in whatever form or fashion it takes on Guam."

Additionally, he discussed the reduced marine presence on Guam, its implications on Guam's economy and his assumptions on military construction projects through 2018.
