Guam - The island's Republicans are gathering this weekend at the Sheraton Laguna Resort for their state convention. The event was held to select six of the nine delegates that will be sent to the Republican National Convention. The three who already have a delegate spot are Minority Leader Frank Blas, Jr., the newly elected party chair and Governor Eddie Calvo who is the titular head of the GOP.

A straw poll was also conducted to determine which Republican presidential candidates the local party supports.  Candidate Mitt Romney sent his son to Guam to promote his campaign. Matt Romney was a special guest during the state convention, encouraging the local GOP to support his father's campaign for the White House.
