Guam - Nearly 100 dignitaries from the neighboring islands are expected to join Governor Eddie Calvo on Guam for this year's Micronesian Chief Executives Summit this week. Governor's chief of staff Frank Arriola says last year's summit focused on conservation and preservation of aquatic and natural resources in the region and the Guam component will take a slight shift and focus strictly on economic development in the region including the china visa waiver program, regional tourism and transportation.

"I think a lot of our brothers from the islands are very excited to come to Guam," Arriola told KUAM News. "There's a very large contingent and a lot of social activities, but the job at hand and the business at hand for them is very important. The governor of Guam is very happy and pleased to put something together for them and we expect a lot of collaboration moving forward to put the islands together."

Governor Calvo meanwhile did reach out to Department of Energy secretary Steven Chu during his trip to Washington, DC concerning the impact of oil prices to Guam and possibly seeking grants for renewable and alternative energy.

The Micronesian Chief Executives Summit takes place from March 13-15 at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.
