Guam - Acting on the last day before it would automatically become law, Governor Eddie Calvo vetoed Bill 431 this afternoon. Although he thanked Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. for introducing the legislation that would extend the contract for services with the island's senior centers and acting on what he thought at the time was an emergent situation, Calvo says there was no crisis.

"The Department of Public Health had been working with the mayor's office, there was an agreement signed and led through a smooth transition and because of that and because there has been no need for any other further movement, there is no emergency, and I do believe this bill in all sense and all intensive purposes moot," he said.

Governor Calvo added there should not be any negative reaction to his decision as the mayors have stepped up to the plate to support the island's manamko' and looks forward with working with both the mayor's council and GGARP/SPIMA.
