US, Japan officials discuss realignment
by Nick Delgado
Guam - The Kyodo News reports senior Japanese and U.S. officials will meet this week in Washington to discuss how to deploy some of the Marines from Okinawa to Guam. The two countries are hosting a director-general meeting of foreign and defense officials in DC, which will be trailed by two-day meetings next week to work out the details of the Marines realignment.
The relocation is no longer contingent on the Futenma Replacement Facility. Officials anticipate a rough plan on the deployment sometime in May.
