Guam - Due to a last-minute conference off island, Mateo Sardoma Jr.'s detention hearing was postponed. Sardoma was scheduled to ask to be released from jail but his defense attorney, Curtis Van De Veld, was asked to represent another lawyer at an annual conference in the mainland.
Van De Veld is expected to return next week when the court will schedule another hearing. Sardoma is accused of organizing a major drug-trafficking conspiracy on Guam. He and nine others have been charged in a federal indictment accused of conspiring to distribute hundreds of grams worth of crystal methamphetamine.
Their trial is scheduled for April.
