Young Sharks learn about civic responsibility

Guam - The students at Simon Sanchez High School marched Wusstig Drive this morning with the mission to clean up the trash lingering along the roadside. The cleanup is in conjunction with their studies on Black History Month, civic responsibility, environmental effects and understanding behaviors of society.
SSHS junior Destiny Megofna says Black History Month taught her to take action if she sees a problem in the community. "We go to school every day and we see the sides of our roads it's all trashed up. Like the flier says, 'Guam is our home', and why would you want to trash your island? So we're out here picking up the trash and hopefully it sets an example for everyone else."
Roughly 200 students participated in the cleanup and collected over 400 bags worth of trash.
